Microsoft Dynamics NAV
Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009: a great leap ahead!
With Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009, Microsoft offers a new and very complete version of Dynamics NAV, with a strong focus on user experience, technological innovation and extensive reporting options.
User Experience: working role-based.
With the role-based user experience, Microsoft brings an completely new concept compared to previous versions of Microsoft Dynamics NAV. Based on an investigation 32 new roles were defined in this version, each corresponding to functions of people in a company (e.g sales manager, controller,...). When an employee logs on the system, he finds a screen with all relevant information that he needs in order to carry out his / her job. For example, a sales manager may have a list of expected deals and the sales results of the previous month. This way of working allows the individual employee to better organize his work and to give the right priority to critical tasks so that productivity and efficiency are increased.

Technological innovation: new architecture en the use of webservices
New 3-tier architecture
Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 introduces a 3-tier architecture instead of the current two-tier mode, where the client connects to a database server. The new architecture adds an additional level, and will look as follows:

Client tier: this is the first level of the application and the Dynamics NAV client.
Microsoft Dynamics NAV Service tier: this is the intermediate level that ensures implementing the business logic.
Database tier: this is the lower level where the database servers are located. In other words, when the service tier needs data, it will connect to the database tier.
Microsoft Dynamics NAV Service tier will focus on processing data. The client application, which is running on the PC, has only a presentation function. The service tier is also the contact for other software applications that not only want to use the data in the Navision database, but also the logic in the database. This is done mainly via webservices (see below).
This new architecture also sets the first major step towards a web-based application.
Webservices
With the built-in support for webservices, data exchange and integration with other IT systems, mobile devices, web sites,..., will become a lot easier, while security and data integrity are ensured. You gain flexibility and strength in the exchange of information and cooperation with your customers, suppliers and partners.
Extensive reporting possibilities
Analysis and reporting based on SQL Server are fully integrated within this new version of Dynamics NAV. This allows your employees to make their own intuitive, easy to use reports and graphics (in color!) and convert them into PDF for further distribution. Moreover, you as a business manager can analyze certain trends, detect sales opportunities, develop new strategies and monitor how they perform in relation to the predefined goals and KPI's.
